BE AWARE OF EMAIL PHISHING SCAMS

Career seekers in particular are advised to be very careful about sharing personal information unless they have checked the authenticity of the request directly with the service providers.

We advise that career seekers use all of the following practices to reduce the risk of falling prey to a phishing email attack:

  • Never respond to the email requesting personal information (e.g. your ID, bank details, passwords, etc). If you are unsure look up the service provider’s number or email address on their website and call them to verify the request.
  • Check for poor spelling and grammatical errors in the email content as this is frequently an indication of a fake email. The scammers will often copy a company’s logo and try and forge an email signature. Check the source email address and compare this with the email layout on the service providers’ website.
  • On a mobile device, if the user is not sure, by clicking and holding the link, a URL or web address of the page will appear, and you can determine if it’s legitimate.
  • On a PC, hover the mouse over the link to see if the URL or web address of
    the page is legitimate.
  • Never click on suspicious links and always think before clicking.
