Graduate Process Engineer – Hermanus/Overstrand Area (Western Cape)

Leading company in providing water technologies, treatment infrastructure and networks services for the municipal, industrial, and commercial sectors have an opportunity for a Graduate Process Engineer within the Overstrand Area (based in Hermanus) for a one year fixed term contract.

       REQUIRED COMPETENCE AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.Eng. Chemical Engineering (recently graduated).

  • ECSA Registration as a Candidate Engineer would be an advantage.

  • Experience as a process engineer, graduate engineer or equivalent role in water treatment works would be an advantage.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer Literacy - google workspace tools & experience with cloud computing, such as Docusign.

  • Own vehicle & drivers’ licence are essential.

 

1.     Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with contractual, operational, and process requirements for assigned water treatment sites.

  • Support Blue/Green Drop audits by preparing sites, gathering documentation, summarising data, and assisting with consultant reports.

  • Optimise chemical dosing regimes by reviewing dosing rates, conducting evaluations, and improving process efficiency and water quality.

  • Maintain accurate operational records, including dosing data, analytical results, logbooks, inspection sheets, and daily/weekly reporting.

  • Support process compliance and standardisation through the review, development, updating, and training of SOPs and operational procedures.

  • Conduct and support process testing, including weekly jar testing, analytical instrumentation calibration, performance testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Assist with engineering design and optimisation studies, including process documentation, optimisation plans, design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments, and value engineering.

  • Support procurement activities by preparing equipment specifications, RFQ/PO documentation, and technically evaluating vendor proposals.

  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants, including technical clarifications, meetings, and supplementary requirements.

  • Assist with project execution, including design, construction, pre-commissioning, cold/hot commissioning, commissioning documentation, operating manuals, and performance testing.

  • Investigate operational and engineering problems at site and in the office, contributing to practical solutions and continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to business growth and professional development by identifying water, waste, and energy opportunities, staying current with industry technologies, and maintaining strong engineering and company standards.

2.     Quality, Healthy & Safety

  • Ensure health and safety legislation and contractual obligations pertaining to health & safety are adhered to throughout the project.

  • Read and understand the latest ISO 9001 QMS manual for the procedures pertaining to the Chemical and Operations Division.

 

3.     External Relations

  • Liaise with suppliers, consultants and contractors on technical aspects.

  • Interacts with partners and other companies in the group.

  • Produce presentations and/or represent the company at trade fairs and seminars
